As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. You will collaborate with other educators, therapists, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Responsibilities:
Individualized Instruction: Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Utilize various teaching strategies, materials, and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate students’ academic progress and skill development. Use data-driven insights to modify instructional approaches and interventions as needed.
Classroom Management: Establish clear expectations, routines, and behavior management strategies to create a positive and supportive classroom environment. Foster a culture of respect, acceptance, and inclusion among all students.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with general education teachers, support staff, therapists, and parents to coordinate services and ensure alignment between IEP goals and classroom instruction. Regularly communicate with stakeholders to share progress updates and discuss strategies for student success.
Differentiated Instruction: Adapt curriculum materials and instructional methods to address the diverse needs and abilities of students with disabilities. Provide scaffolded support and personalized learning experiences to help students access grade-level content and achieve academic growth.
Social and Emotional Development: Foster the social and emotional well-being of students with special needs through individual counseling, social skills instruction, and peer mentoring programs. Help students develop self-confidence, self-advocacy skills, and positive relationships with peers and adults.
Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in special education. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in areas such as inclusive teaching strategies, assistive technology, and behavior management techniques.
