I am Joel D. Laura, and I am currently working as a Junior Accountant (WFH/Night Shift) for more than a year in a BPO company that provides accounting services to US clients. I also worked as an Audit Associate for a small accounting firm, where I was exposed to different accounting systems (e.g., Xero, QB, Sage, & Yardi). I also handled the filing of tax returns using JuanTax and did costing, as a reliever, for a small manufacturing company, where I learned how to use Microsoft Excel (e.g., lookups, IF functions, etc.).
About my current role, as a Junior Accountant, I am handling 13 properties and supervising a teammate, and does the following functions:
Daily Responsibilities:
1. Record various invoices in Yardi (e.g., loan, mortgage, ADP, among others).
2. Perform daily bank reconciliations.
3. Respond to inquiries from vendors, the board of directors, and property managers (via email, calls, and Zoom).
4. Prepare weekly cash reports, process payments through Viewpost and in-house systems, and confirm payments for other payables enrolled in ACH.
Monthly/Quarterly Responsibilities:
1. Closing of the books, including recording of adjustments such as amortization, depreciation, accruals, and prepaid entries.
2. Ensure proper classification of expenses.
3. Prepare monthly financial statements.
4. Upload reports to the remote drive.
5. Download property tax invoices from the NYC Tax website and record the corresponding entries..
Annual Responsibilities:
1. Draft the annual budget.
2. Respond to audit inquiries.
3. Record entries based on the CPA’s working papers.
